Under normal circumstances, the feed containing urea has poor palatability; in addition, rumen microorganisms have a gradual adaptation process for urea utilization. Therefore, when using urea to feed cattle, the feed should be gradually increased, and the adaptation period takes about 3-7 days.
According to the beef cattle breeding standard, the crude protein of the feed should be between 11% and 13%. If the feed protein content of beef cattle has reached the standard, no need to use urea, otherwise it will cause waste. Conversely, the dietary protein content should not be too low, because urea can only be used as a supplement to dietary protein, but not as a major source of protein. In practical use, urea protein ammonia should not exceed 1/3 of the crude protein nitrogen in the whole diet. Under normal circumstances, the daily urea consumption of beef cattle of about 1 year old is 40-60 grams, and the beef cattle of about 2 years old is 60-80 grams. When used, it is required to mix urea into the concentrate and feed it 2 to 3 times a day.
Ruminal microorganisms consume a certain amount of energy while using urea nitrogen to synthesize bacterial proteins . Therefore, the use of urea to feed cattle must provide a certain high-energy concentrate, and the speed at which the concentrate feeds energy must be consistent with the need for microbial synthesis of protein. In general, it is better to choose a high-starch concentrate, such as corn .
Under normal circumstances, urea can be used for beef cattle older than 3 months. Because of the beef age of too young, the rumen function is still not perfect and urea cannot be used.
After feeding urea, you can't drink water immediately, and you can't dissolve the urea directly into the water to let the cows drink. Otherwise, the utilization efficiency of urea will be reduced, and even the cattle will be poisoned. It is generally required to feed the urea for 30 minutes before drinking water.
