Breeding method
(1) Cuttings: It is advisable to carry out the rainy season or the beginning of autumn. You can use cuttings with 3 to 5 knots and about 5 cm in length for cuttings. The shoots without apical buds can also be inserted, but the rooting time is long and the root system is less. The woody shoots should not be used. Otherwise, the rooting ability is poor, the hair roots are slow, and the survival rate is also low.
(2) Sowing: September or April. Due to the small size of the seed, no soiling or less soiling is required after sowing. After sowing, the plants are given half-negative and moist conditions. After 14 to 20 days, they germinate. When 2 to 3 pairs of true leaves are grown, they are transplanted. After the roots grow well, they are planted on the upper pot or ground. Speckled species on the leaves cannot be sown, otherwise the traits of the stripes will be lost.
(3) Beading: Since the shoots are rooted after contacting the soil surface, the bead is very easy to take root.
(4) Ramets: From March to April, after rooting, cut it from the mother plant and cultivate it separately.
Cultivation points
(1) Temperature: hi warm climate, the most suitable temperature for growth is 20°C to 25°C. More cold, avoid high temperature and high humidity, high temperature and high humidity when the plant growth is weak, and easy to produce decay. It is advisable to cultivate in a cold area or set off a cool place for summers. At the same time, take measures such as spraying the environment and strengthening ventilation to reduce the temperature.
(2) Illumination: There is plenty of sunshine, and when the light is insufficient, the plants will grow. However, in the summer and autumn when the sun is strong, proper shading is needed to avoid burning the foliage.
(3) Watering: As the leaves are slightly fleshy, they are slightly tolerant to drought and wet. When the basin soil is too wet, the roots and leaves of the plants will not grow well, and the content of essential oils will be reduced, even leading to the death of rot and even the plants. Watering during growth should be based on the principle of “do not do it without pouring it, and pour it with waterâ€, preferring to do a little more dry and not to keep it wet. In the rainy season, the water in the basin should be drained in time, and the soil in the basin should be prevented from being too wet during high temperatures in the summer; in the winter, more water must be controlled to keep the basin dry in a relatively dry state.
(4) Fertilization: Due to relatively slow growth, it does not require too much fertilizer. In the spring and autumn, when vigorous growth occurs, thin fertilizer is applied once every half month. For leaf-streaked species, phosphorus and potassium combined fertilizers should be applied so that the color of the markings becomes beautiful. Summer and winter should stop the fertilization material, especially the summer plant growth is relatively weak, fertilization can easily lead to the death of plant rot.
(5) pruning: When the seedlings should be picked up to promote branching, forming a dense plant. Usually can be trimmed according to the growth of the plant, you can maintain the appearance of the plant, but also conducive to air and light. Special care must be taken when pruning, do not cut the leaves too low and result in lignification, otherwise it is more difficult to restore the growth bud. If there are variegated or coloured species on the leaf surface, the phenomenon of lignification should be immediately removed.
(6) Planting and turning basins: Generally, it is necessary to turn the basins once every two years and add a well-drained neutral or alkaline soil. The potted substrate can be prepared with humus, peat soil and other materials, and perlite, ash, grit and other water-reducing materials are added, and a drainage layer is added to the pelvic floor.
(7) Others: The optimum temperature for the growth of thyme is 20°C to 25°C. Note that the summer high temperature needs to take cooling measures. If you need to cook food, you can harvest the stems and leaves when the main stem is 40 centimeters high. It is worth mentioning that you must not water before harvesting, otherwise the pleasant fragrance will be greatly reduced.
