Recently, an "Embrace" smart wrist developed by MIT's Rosalind Picard and his team has emerged. Since the electrodermal activity can reflect some of the changes in the depths of the brain, this watch can be warned before the wearer's seizure by measuring its changes, combined with a data model based on years of clinical data. In addition, like some smart watches that have already been introduced, this watch also collects the wearer's daily temperature and exercise data, allowing the wearer to assess their physical activity and sleep quality.

The design of the watch was inspired by a study by the Picard team about the emotional state of children with autism. In the study, they needed to measure the electrical conduction of the skin on the child's wrist. Picard noted that a child had a spike in galvanic activity in the study, and after twenty minutes the child developed seizures. Picard said: "I was shocked when I realized that the bioelectricity on my wrist could predict seizures."
When the watch detects an impending epilepsy, it sends a message to the pre-designated friend or family member of the wearer. Embrace looks just like any other smart watch. Picard said: "I remember when I was a child, people had huge epilepsy bracelets. No one wanted to wear ugly and eye-catching medical equipment ."
However, Dr. Katrien Jansen of the Belgian Catholic University of Leuven pointed out that any form of stress can lead to signs like seizures. "The biggest difficulty in designing such devices is the correct detection sensitivity and specificity. These problems can lead to underreporting of epilepsy and false alarms," ​​she said. However, she also believes that such equipment is very promising.
