Recently, a high-yield ion beam inoculation of high-yield xylanase strains and a solid-state fermentation process optimization project led by a plasma ion beam bioengineering key laboratory passed the results identification. The technology is to use ion beam biotechnology to improve strains, and then through the bacteria to increase the conversion rate of straw to xylanase. According to experts from the project team, the enzymatic activity of the strains improved by this technology is 8-10 thousand UI/g, which is two times higher than in the past and has reached the best level both at home and abroad. It has been learned that since the 1960s, the field of xylanase application has been continuously expanding and has applications in industries such as food, feed, paper, textile, brewing, medicine, environment, and energy. For example, it can eliminate feed. Anti-nutritional factors in feed, reducing the viscosity of chyme, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestine and improving the immunity of livestock and poultry, etc.; in the food industry, xylanase can decompose natural plant fiber such as cotton husk, bagasse, corn cob, etc. It produces functional xylo-oligosaccharides that can be used as food additives and pharmaceutical products. The raw material for production of xylanase is the corn crop, straw and other crop waste.
Experts told the reporter that this achievement has provided a new way for the utilization of straw, but in order to make full use of renewable energy such as straw, other methods must be combined. For example, straw can be used to generate electricity. Western countries, especially Sweden, use straw burning to generate electricity, which is the main way for straw to turn waste into treasure.
It is understood that at present, a feed processing company in Hefei is negotiating with the project team to bring the results into production.
