According to a report on May 24, a robot with a height of 1.4 meters and a child-like height has been spoken in the conference room of the Gangnam-dong Dementia Support Center in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
The robot can sing, shake the body, and the arm can move rhythmically. SILBOT, a robot for the prevention of dementia, which was developed by the old people, and SILBOT, which was jointly developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Samsung Seoul Hospital, and Ewha Women’s University five years ago, has been used in the Dementia Support Center. And other institutions.
In the near future, people can also see SILBOT in the home of dementia patients. The research team in South Korea announced on May 23 that "we have entered the development of a family robot for the treatment of dementia 'mini SILBOT' (tentative name)." The project has been selected as the "Robot Industry Integration Core Technology Development Project" of the Korea Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Resources, and has received research funding support of 5.9 billion won (about 33 million yuan) for four years. In this development, the three universities of Sungkyunkwan University, POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology), and the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and the venture company Robocare founded by KIST will participate in the development of Ewha Women's University.
The Mini SILBOT will be designed to be only one-third the size of the existing SILBOT, which can assist the dementia patient's daily life and communicate emotionally with the patient. The camera and sensor on the robot body can sense the patient's expression, movement, pulse rate, etc. through the smart bracelet worn on the patient, and grasp the patient's state. If it is judged that the patient's mood is unstable, the robot will play music that contributes to emotional stability, or find a solution that is conducive to meditation. If the patient's condition deteriorates dramatically, the robot will immediately contact the patient's guardian or notice 119. All records will be stored in big data.
The research team's goal is to end development in 2020 and enter the commercialization phase one year later. The price of the mini SILBOT is set at a price of less than 2 million won. The research team plans to use a mini-SILBOT sample to be used in clinical trials for patients with dementia. Professor Jin Jianhe explained that “the clinical trial will analyze the brain magnetic resonance image (MRI) of the dementia patient using the mini SILBOT on a quarterly basis to confirm the utility of the robotâ€.
